Arrived at Dulles on time. Not a bad flight(s) for 16 hours. I ducked dinner upon departure in Jo'burg and slept for 7 hours straight. Next leg from Dakar was spent watching a movie -- Water for Elephants, snoozing and having breakfast. First in line for passport control and then on the way home in a car. Stay tuned for a Susie retrospective in a day or so.

Departure for Botswana
Up early after not the best night's sleep we've ever had. 6 hours difference is always a struggle the first night. Checked in early and the friendly face of Jane Lee Winter at the counter then off for a coffee. Next, widow shopping to plan our attack when we transit back to the States in 2 weeks. Everyone seems incredibly friendly at the hotel and shops -- something friend Kenny confirms in his month of living here. Next stop Maun, Botswana .

Onboard South African Airlines # 208
Next stop Dakar Senegal in about 9 hours for fuel and then on to Johannesburg for another nearly 9 hours. There seem to be a number of Safari-clad passengers on the flight. We are traveling incognito.

Planning for the trip

We booked with a travel agent who specializes in African safaris on the recommendation of friends in our neighborhood -- thanks to Sam and Al Hall! Just booked the air on South African Airways - about 17 hours to Johannesburg, with a fuel stop in Dakar. We depart on 7/31 at 5:40 PM and arrive on 8/1 at 5:30 PM -- 7 hours difference in time from home.
